Profile
Institute of Technology Blanchardstown
The Institute of Technology at Blanchardstown has been in
operation since 1999 and already has a student population of approximately 1700
students. The remit of ITB is
established in legislation and published government policies and which are
captured in its mission statement namely the provision of quality third level
education and technology transfer services.
The mission of the Institute is to serve its
students and the community by meeting the skills needs in the economy and
increasing the level of participation in third-level education and training,
particularly in Dublin North-West and its environs.
The Institute will do this:
- By achieving consistently high
standards of relevance and quality in teaching, research, development and
consultancy.
- By offering a welcoming and
supportive environment to students from all educational and social
backgrounds and to adults wishing to increase or update their level of
technical skills.
One of the key objectives of the Institute is
to contribute significantly to the economic development and prosperity
of that area. The area is characterised by the presence of a high level of
commercial activity in manufacturing, logistics and retail centres and a rapid
growth in population. ITB’s role in maintaining this level of economic activity
is evidenced by inclusion in the development plans of Fingal and Meath County
Councils and in the regional strategies of Enterprise Ireland.
Our contribution to the area will be made through knowledge
and technology transfer alongside enhanced educational opportunities and
achievement.
Forming collaboration and linkages with education providers,
businesses, community organisations and the public sector has been a priority
for ITB since its inception. Our strategy for the next five years is to build
on these relationships and to launch a range of initiatives which will address
the needs of each of these stakeholders.
The Learning and
Innovation Centre @ ITB is serving as a visible and active linkage between
ITB’s academic expertise and the business community in the region. Its primary objective is to help create
wealth locally by enabling the creation or expansion of business ventures which
will increase trade and employment in the region.
It will achieve this objective through the provision of:
·
Facilities and support for Research and
Development activity within the Institute and in particular applied research
projects which will be carried out in collaboration between the Schools and
industry partners.
- Facilities, training and
support for start up of high growth knowledge based business which may
develop from research projects, from within our graduate cohort or are
otherwise linked to the Institute.
- Training,
consultancy and other supports to improve the competitiveness of SME’s in
the region in areas which are identified as strategic competencies.
